Good News, Bad News

The good news is that he's added "poo" to his list of words. The bad news is that I learned that when he came to tell me he'd done it on my floor.

Other good news is that while I had no intention of potty training this kid until he was much much older, he's like Mikayla, and had other plans. She was around this age when she started taking her clothes off and climbing up on the toilet herself. He's not quite there yet, but he's been removing his diaper in order to pee on the floor for months now. I figure if he can pee on the floor on purpose, he can pee in a potty on purpose. So there are now 3 little potty chairs spread throughout the house. He has actually been using them several times a day. He still prefers the floor for poop though.

His reflux makes this interesting. He sits, pees, stands up and says "YAY!" and claps. But I know he's not done, so I tell him to try again. We repeat this 3-4 times, usually. Last night, he seriously did it at least 10 times in a row, cheering for himself and dumping it out into the big toilet each time. If we were giving out stickers every time he went, we'd be out of them by now. After a mere 3 days. I almost think he's intentionally holding some back, just to get more applause out of us.

I have high hopes that he's actually figuring this whole thing out, and that in 9 days when he has surgery, it'll work, and after that he'll pee less often, like normal people.

For the record, he likes his red and green potties that were $2.99 from Ikea much better than his plain white Baby Bjorn one that was $9.99 from Babies R Us. If you're potty training a tiny little toddler though, that Baby Bjorn one is good because it's the smallest I've ever seen. People who use elimination communication (basically, diaper free during infancy, and holding the baby over a little potty at frequent intervals through the day) recommend it because it's tiny. The Ikea ones are a good size too, though.

Other good news is that I've actually lost track of his list of words. I think he adds a good 50 per day lately. I can't keep up anymore.
