Busy day around here yesterday. I'll attempt the nutshell version:
1 - Michael's first day of class. His bosses (several levels of them, apparently) disagree on how often and how and who he's to report in. He's on School Op right now, so he doesn't work at all, just learns. Except he still has to check in. The Big Dog says they have to come in to formation this week, but then just call in after that. The Little Dog says they should have to actually show up daily to check in. So he went in to formation yesterday AM and was released. Then got a call from the Little Dog right after he got home saying he needed him to come in to check in with HIM too, not just the Big one. Not only was it his first day of class, I needed the car, so he was getting a ride - so dilly dallying was not an option, but this guy wanted to take up half the day. He finally did make it to class. Not on time, but that was his ride's fault actually.
2 - I needed the van so I could go to court. I entertained myself by looking around at all the awful outfits that people thought were acceptable for court. Sure, how you're dressed doesn't effect how sweet a deal they offer you, but I'm fairly certain that the letter I got in the mail with my court date on it included the words "business casual." Since when does that involve ratty jeans and dingy ill-fitting shirts? It was bad. And there I'd been in the elevator debating whether to tuck in my crisp white button down into my black trousers with pink pinstripes or leave it out. I left it out, mainly because I reached my floor before I had time to fully tuck. I got my ticket reduced and had to pay $75. Got to overhear fun conversations, like the guy who was plotting to sweet talk the lady into just throwing his ticket out, because he just got married and can't afford this. He didn't get it thrown out.
3 - Actually went to the gym. Worked out for a good long while. There are these new Community Centers here on base, well one so far, the others are in progress, and they have little gyms with a wall of windows looking into a kid's play room. Free. So I take advantage now. I kept having to go see what they were trying to tell me through the glass though. Mikayla had mentioned her back hurt, then her head. but she seemed okay.
4 - she fell asleep on the way home and then slept on the couch but she usually wakes up when i get her from the car. And when she woke up whiney, I felt her and she was burning up. Yep, 102. I needed to clean the patio because it was a REALLY nice day and I try to do outdoor work on those days when I can. She wanted to be with me. So I bundled her up and put her in a stroller while I worked.
The evening was filled with the basics, other than that Mikayla took another nap and woke up to eat dinner. Which is when we had the real fun.
I think most of my readers know I'm not big into medicines. I use more natural stuff or just don't treat at all, other than with rest and lots of water. But when I've got a 3 yr old crying because her head and throat hurts, I break out the motrin. Silly me, by bedtime, she was in a great mood, all smiles and feeling great. But I also got out the homeopathic cold stuff I have, and one homemade remedy. because I was pretty sure it was strep, I was treating based on a book I've got. And one recommendation is raw garlic with honey. So, Michael minced some garlic, mixed in some honey, and put it in a bowl for me to dispense. Mikayla sensed a problem the moment I sat in front of her with a spoon.
And do you know what my husband said to her??? "Its good baby! Watch *mommy* eat some!" MOMMY??? ME?? No freakin way! But I had to then. I got as much honey and as little garlic possible and swallowed. I didn't even have a drink handy. It was nasty. We somehow convinced her to open up, she was still skeptical, and I really don't know how we got her to swallow, she sat there looking sick and mad and hurt all at once for a few seconds, then finally swallowed it down. Then chugged some juice.
Aaric thought it looked like fun and wanted some, but was not so amused when we wouldn't let him spit it out since he'd begged so much. Then when he talked about how hot it was, Michael told him it was good, not hot. I said "Uh, yeah, its hot."
"Garlic isn't hot!"
"Raw garlic is very much hot."
This went back and forth a few times until he picked up a clove, and started chewing on it. He believes me now. I'm sure we all had fabulous breath.
And the last piece of news... I'm a working woman again. Okay, so technically, I have a job. Not just the mom one that doesn't pay in cash, but I do have the NFB biz (see link to the side) which i rarely get cash from, but that's because I get my commissions in gift certs so I can just buy more stuff instead. I get paid in products LOL. But no, I'll be getting a CASH job. The lady who runs the nursery at our church (really big, but not "mega" church) called to see if I'd be available to babysit every other Wednesday for 2 hours, for $6/hr. While not a lot of money per month or anything, I think its cool - I have to fill out an application and everything. I'll actually be a paid *employee* of our church. I have a job!
So, that was our day - school, court, gym, sickness, garlic, and new job offer. As opposed to my usual just sitting around!
